Biography

Arthur was born in Hobart, the youngest surviving child in his family.

Little is known of his early years, but when he grew up he followed in the footsteps of his brother Henry and became a printer.

Marriage

Arthur married Amelia Dorsett in Victoria. On the marriage record he is shown as a bachelor, occupation Printer and aged 23. Amelia is a spinster, occupation Hat Trimmer and aged 22. Arthur lived at Little Flinders Lane, Melbourne, and Amelia was living at Union Place in Carlton.

Arthur gives his birthplace as Cheltenham, England, which is incorrect, and his parents are listed as Patrick O'Keefe, soldier, and Sarah Kelly (instead of Jane).

Amelia shows as born in London, England, the child of Joseph Dorsett and Annie Peace.

The witnesses to the marriage are difficult to read, but appear to be F J White(Bate??) and Mary Landers.

They continued to live in Melbourne for a few years before moving to Mt Gambier.

Arthur's name appears on several jury lists over the next few years.
