Biography

Mary was born in England in 1798. She passed away in Rivoli Township, Mercer, Illinois in 1863. Mary is buried with her husband, Thomas, at Cooper Cemetery, Mercer, Illinois. They had six children, all born in England: Thomas William, 1817; Catherine Mary Ann, 1820; Lucretia Julia, 1827; Frederick Voltaire, 1828; Ellen Matilda, 1833; and Hypatia Mary Ann, 1837. [1] [2] NOTE: this collection contains many birth and marriage records for some of her children.

Thomas Jeffryes and Mary KEEF were married on 15 April 1816 at St. Clements, Danes, Westminster, London, Middlesex, England. [3] [4]

Their daughter, Catherine Mary Ann Jeffryes, was Christened on 7 February 1820 at St. Clements, Danes, Westminster, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom. [5]

In 1841, the Jeffryes family lived in Rogue’s Harbour, Ash, Surrey, England, United Kingdom. All members of the household were born in Surrey, England. The family included Thomas Jeffryes, 40; his wife, Mary, 40; their children, Thomas, 22; Lucretia, 13; Frederick, 11; and Hypatia, 4. [6]

In 1850, the Jeffryes family lived in Warren County, Illinois. The family included Thomas Jeffryes, 53, a farmer; his wife, Mary Ann, 50; their children, Frederick, 21, a farmer; and Hypatia, 13. All were born in England. Also living with them was Lars Nordine, 12, born in Sweden. [7]

In 1860, the Jeffryes family lived in Township 14, Mercer, Illinois. The household included Thomas Jeffryes, 63, born in England, a shoemaker; his wife, Mary, 60, born in England; their daughter, Olive Martin, 30; and her daughter, Olive Martin, 1. Living nearby were the son of Richard and Mary, Thomas W. Jeffryes, 40, a farmer, his wife, Eliza, and their three children; and the daughter of Thomas and Mary, and her family: Stephen Cooper, 30, a farmer; his wife, Lucretia (Jeffryes) Cooper, 30, and their two children.
