Notes
Canon O’Mahony studied for the priesthood both in Ireland and in Europe. He commenced his preparatory studies in St. Vincent’s Seminary, Cork, and completed them at the College of Jeuilly, in France. From Jeuilly he passed into the Philosophy House of St. Sulpice, at Issy. A year later, the College at Issy having been closed in consequence of the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, he went to continue his course in the Sulpician College of Bayeux, in the North of France. On the conclusion of the war he entered the Theology House of St. Sulpice, Paris. From St. Sulpice’s he went to Innsbruck to finish his course. On the the conclusion of his studies, he went to to Rome to study in the School of St. Thomas. Having taken the degrees of Doctor of Divinity and Philosophy he was ordained in the summer of 1875.

Appointed Canon of the Cathedral Chapter in 1901.
He was a cousin of Very Rev. John Mulcahy, P.P., Timoleague and Very Rev. John Russell, P.P., Ballinhassig.

On his return to Cork from Rome he undertook together with Archdeacon J.J. Coghlan the care of the Diocesan Seminary. He was instrumental in the building of St. Finbarr’s Seminary, Farranferris, Cork, on a site donated by his family.

Obituary
His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. O’ Callaghan, O.P., Bishop of Cork presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass. The celebrant of the Mass was, Very Rev. Richard Canon McCarthy, P.P., V.F., Kinsale; deacon was, Fr. Patrick O’Donovan, C.C., Kinsale; sub-deacon was, Fr. Michael Carmody, C.C., Kinsale.
