Brian Ua Néill King of Tyr Eoghain

Brian O'Neill was a 13th century Prince of Tyrone, Ireland; the son of Niall O'Neill [1]

In 1258, there was a great gathering at Caol Uisage (near Newry, county Antrim) in which Hugh, the son of Felim O'Connor and Teige O'Brien made peace with each other, and offered Brian O'Neill sovereignty over the Irish. [2] [3]

Brian O'Neill died in 1260, killed in battle at the Battle of Druim Dearg near Downpatrick in county Down. Killed leading Irish forces against the English in defence of his kingdom of Tyrone. [4] [5]

Brian Catha (Brian Roe) married Sisile (Cecilia), daughter of Domhnall Mac Lochlin, whose clan Brian had helped subdue. [6]

Sons of Brian O'Neill - [7]
Donal
Niall (died 1314)
Murrough (died 1356)

Research Notes

Two recent historians believe that King Brian O'Neill was married to Gill (MacDougall) of Argyll, a daughter of Duncan (MacDougal), lord of Argyll, but do not provide any evidence for this claim.[8][9] Stevens-17832 20:15, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
