MARKHAM.—On Sunday, 27th July, 1913, at her son's—residence Whitehorse-road, Mitcham, Mary Ellen Markham (maiden name, O'Neill), native of Kilkee, Co., Clare, Ireland, relict of the late John Markham, sister of the late Mrs. T, Ford, and mother of Mrs. F. O'Sullivan, Taroom, Queensland; Mrs. J. Keyes, Yea; C. J. Markham, St. Kilda; and P. J. Markham, Mitcham; fortified by the rites of Holy Church. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. (Irish papers please copy)
On last Sunday, 27th July, at her son's residence, Whitehorse-road, Mitcham, there passed peacefully away a very long-time resident of St. Francis' parish, Melbourne, in the person of Mrs. Mary Ellen Markham. Born at Kilkee, County Clare, Ireland, the deceased lady was, at the time of her death, perhaps the longest connecting link with old St. Francis', coming to Melbourne some 50 years ago and being a parishioner of the mother church of the State since that time. It was fitting, therefore, that her funeral should move from the dear old church with which she had been so long identified, and which has for all old Irish residents, and had indeed for her, so many fond associations. On Tuesday 29th July, the last mortal remains of deceased were brought from Mitcham to St. Francis' Church, and placed before the high altar which was suitably draped, and a large congregation of friends of the deceased joined in the prayer for the dead, recited by Rev. Fr. Mangan. The funeral cortege then left for the Melbourne General Cemetery, where the burial service was conducted by Rev. Fr Duffy, assisted by Rev. Fr. O'Brien. The deceased lady was the widow of the late John Markham, sister 0f the late Mrs. T. Ford, and mother of Mrs. F. O'Sullivan (Taroom, Queensland), Mrs. J Keyes (Yea), Mr. C. J. Markham (St. Kilda) and Mr. P. J. Markham (Mitcham). During her short illness, the Rev. Fr. Hennessy, Lilydale, administered spiritual consolation, and she died fortified by the rites of Holy Church. May she rest in peace.
