William was born about 1827 in Ireland.


At age 29, he married Mary Ryan, 22 (?) September 15, 1856 in Spring Lake, Michigan.[1]

The June 19th, 1860 census shows William (spelled Riley), 32, a farmer, and Mary, 23, living in Polkton Township, Ottawa County, Michigan with their children James, 3, and William, 1.[2]

William enlisted in the 9th Michigan Infantry (unassigned) at the age of 38 on Feb. 27, 1865 at Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Private William O'Reilly served in the United States Civil War.

William died in 1865 in General Hospital #14 in Nashville, Tennessee from typhoid fever and was buried in the Nashville National Cemetery.[3][4][5]
