Biography

Only child of Katherine Unknown and James M. O'Rourke. Husband of Mary Valentine O'Rourke and father of Catherine O'Rourke Knapp.

He lived his whole life in New York state. Norman served in the US Navy (reserve?), enlisting at the recruiting station in Buffalo, New York, when he was 21 years old on June 13 1918, and during his 10 months of service he served as a landsman electrician, radio.

After his discharge, he and Mary Valentine were wed August 3, 1921, a Wednesday, at Saint Mark's church in Buffalo at 9am. Mary's sister Margaret was bridesmaid, a Mr. Frank X. Diem was best man, and ushers were Joseph E. Hassey and Dr. Norbert S. Shultz.[1]

He and Mary lived with his mother-in-law in Buffalo until at least 1925, where they had their daughter Catherine, but had relocated to Utica by the 1930 federal census. According to the census, he completed one year of college, and worked as a sales manager (1930) and real estate agent (1940). By 1942, they had relocated again to Randolph, NY, and on his 1942 draft card, he is indicated as self-employed, with brown hair, blue eyes and light complexion, standing at 6' in height and 185 lbs.

Norman passed away on December 15, 1964, and was laid to rest in Lackawanna, NY.
