Biography

Daniel ("Dannie") was born in April 1890 in Ardagh, Bere Island, the homeplace of his parents Michael O'Sullivan and Margaret O'Sullivan.[1] [2]

Dannie lived in the family home until he emigrated in 1912 (age 22) to the United States. [3]

On arrival in the United States, Dannie went first to Butte (Montana) [4] and then moved (sometime before 1920) to Boston (Massachusetts) , where he lodged with his brother Mikie (who had preceded Dannie in moving to the States and was now married). [5] Dannie & Mikie worked on the docks in Boston, handling freight.

A few years after arriving in Boston, Dannie married Margaret Murphy. Sometime before 1930 Dannie and Margaret bought a house in Saunders Street, Medford (Massachusetts), where they settled.

In 1942, as the United States became militarily involved in World War II, Dannie (age 52) was drafted for military service. [6]

At the time of draft, Dannie was employed as a dock worker (longshoreman) by Quinn Brothers Inc., at 141 Milk Street, Boston. The warehouse building at 141 Milk Street is no longer standing and the address is no longer in existence, much of the street and surrounding area having been re-developed since. [7]
