Biography

Isaac was born to William and Sarah Vowles Odell in Rye in about 1675, one of twins. [1][2] [3][3] Some other sources estimate 1665.

Isaac Odell married Anna Tompkins, likely in her hometown of Eastchester where they settled, perhaps 1692.[1] [3] Other sources suggest 1695 but three births before the 1698 census makes 1692 appear more likely.

Isaac and Anna Odell had:[3][1]

  • Isaac, b. 1693
  • William, b. 1695
  • Tomkins, b. 1697
  • Nathaniel, b. 1705
  • Jonathan, b. 1705
  • Joshua, b. 1707

and, one suspects, a daughter or three.

In the census of 1698, Isaac is listed as head of a household that included his wife Anna and sons Isaac, William, and Tomkins, plus Deborah Tomkins, presumed to be the daughter of the late Nathaniel Tomkins, Anna's youngest sister.[3]

In a 1710 census of men of military age in Eastchester, Isaac is listed (as Isaac Oadele), age 35[4] Thus, he died after that, possibly much later. Some genealogies have misinterpreted that 1710 age record as a death notice.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Isaac by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Isaac:

Odell-2795 and Odell-38 appear to represent the same person because: This is a duplicate I found. It had the name O'dell. I took over the abandoned profile and corrected the name to Odell. Now it needs to be merged with it's duplicate. The child Jonathan Odell is a good profile even though the name is again misspelled as O'dell. I cannot correct the spelling as I am not the profile manager on that one.
