Birth

Bridget was born in Cork about 1835/1836. There are variations iwth her surname in the records - either O'Brien or Brien, however, she was definitely from Cork and Convict records state that she was charged and tried at Cork City. She arrived in Australia aged 17, sentenced for house robbery, charges of which she was later acquitted.

Australian Arrival

Convict Records

Conduct Record: Bridget is described as age 17, sentenced for House Robbery (including clothes). She is 5/2 and a half inches tall, fresh complexion, medium head, brown hair, oval visage, medium forehead, brown eyebrows, grey eyes, large nose with a medium chin and mouth. She is stated as a native of Cork. June 7 1853 she was charged with neglect of duty and insolence and sentenced to six months hard labour. In March 1857 she is charged with being in the Fryers District without a pass and sentenced to hard labour for a month. Difficult to read the dates but it appears she was acquitted of her larceny charges. Tasmania: Document Image Conduct Record

Marriage

She married George 23 April 1856 in Tasmania, he was aged 36 and she was 20. He married without using the name "Golding" and the marriage names are "George Brown and Bridget O'Brien". Libraries Tasmania: Marriage Certificate Image.

Bridget was given permission to marry on April 1, 1856. Permission was granted for Bridget (a Convict who arrived on the Midlothian) to marry George who was a Free Settler. he is listed under CON 52/7 page 41 LIbraries Tasmania Document Image: Marriage Permissions.

Death

She died at Goroke in Victoria in 1928. [1]
