Biography

As a young boy he was an active member of Fianna Eireann which was a nationalist youth organization founded in 1909, Its members were involved in setting up the of armed nationalists body of the Irish volunteers and had their own circle of the Irish Republican Brotherhood , Fought in the Easter uprising of 1916. In 1922 he was imprisoned with his younger brother James but they were transfered to another prison after participating in the burning down of the first one. He was a member of the original Irish Republican Army and fought for Irish independance during the Irish war of Independance, He was released in 1923 along with his brother james when Ireland became the Irish free state, His family were given a medal for his participation in the centenary of 1916- He also received an army pension.

He married Catherine Roach and had 4 daughters but she died in 1939, He advertised for a housekeeper and Elizabeth Dempsey applied for the post, A few years later they were married and had more Children,

He worked on the Railways for many years and died in May 1980 at the age of about 82 /83 years old. == Sources == Irish Archives on Easter Rising
