Thomas Albert was born in 1835. He was the eldest son of Jesse Oakes and Eliza Whitman. He married Esther Whitman Oakes, who predeceased him on March 7th, 1932, at the age of ninety-eight. In November 1931, they celebrated their seventy-fifth Anniversary (married 1857).

The death of Thomas Albert Oakes occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Whitman, Nictaux Falls, on Thursday, Oct. 12th. He was ninety-eight years old in July last, and was the oldest member of a family of ten. In his day he was a great man in religious work, being greatly interested in the ministry. He was the instigator and founder of the New Albany Baptist Church. His wife, who was formerly Esther Whitman Oakes predeceased him on March 7th, 1932, at the age of ninety-eight years and five months. They lived a wonderful life together which was spent in New Albany until a few years ago when on account of declining years they gave up their farm and came to Nictaux Falls to live with Mr. and Mrs. Whitman. In November 1931, the late Mr. and Mrs. Oakes celebrated their seventy-fifth Anniversary. Mr. Oakes is survived by one brother, Dr. I.B. Oakes, Wolfville. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon from the New Albany Baptist Church conducted by Rev. L.B. Wright, of Nictaux falls, assisted by Rev. C.O. Howlett, of Lawrencetown.
