Orange Co, VA WILL BOOK (1778-1801), pg.67-70 Shows John Henderson was born 03/17/1698 in Orange Co, VA & died the 24th day of September, 1783, in Orange Co, VA. The appraisal of his estate was done by appraisers: John Stevens, William Pollock & John Oakes.

  • It is more than likely this is the same John Oakes, since he & fellow appraiser, William Pollock, are both named as "Heads of Families" in 1782 Orange Co, VA.
    • The above info was taken from lists of enumerations for VA for the years 1782 thru 1785. The original copies of the first census in 1790 for VA were burned during the War of 1812.
