Josiah was born about 1788 (based on his age at death).

Josiah married Jane HOLLAND on 24 Feb 1817, at Leamington Priors,Warwick,England. [1]

Josiah married Sarah PAGE on 11 Sep 1831, at Orlingbury, Northampton, England. [2]

Josiah arrived in South Australia on 1836-12-24, aboard the ship, HMS Buffalo, with his 2nd wife, Sarah, and his children: OAKLEY Josiah, Sarah PAGE (2nd wife), Sam, Thos, Mary, Wm, Josiah (←1st wife), (2nd→) John Page, Jas, Susannah Eliz arrived 1836-12-24 on HMS Buffalo from Portsmouth 36-07-13 via Spithead 36-07-23, St Helens 36-08-03, Rio de Janeiro 36-10-12'. [3] He was listed as being "40 Labourer from Orlingbury". [4]

Josiah ran The Oakley Arms on Gilles Street, Adelaide in April 1839.[5]

After his wife Sarah died in 1839, Josiah married Elizabeth MORLEY on 25 Oct 1853, at Morphett Vale, SA. [6]

He passed away in 1876, [7] and was buried at Kangarilla Wesleyan Methodist/Uniting Cemetery. [8] His death was reported in the Adelaide papers, The Express and Telegraph (Adelaide, SA : 1867 - 1922) Sat 12 Aug 1876 Page 2 Family Notices [9]

DIED.
OAKLEY.—On July 27th, at his residence, Kangarilla, Josiah Oakley, aged 88 years. Arrived in the ship Buffalo in the year 1836. He leaves two sons and two daughters and a large number of grandchildren to lament his loss.
