Mary Oakley was born in Jun 1847 in Lower Gornal, Sedgley parish, Staffordshire, England to Thomas Oakley and Mary (Clark) Oakley. Her birth was registered in Dudley, Staffordshire in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Clark.[1]
Mary Oakley, aged six weeks, daughter of Thomas, a collier, & Mary, residing at Gornal, was christened on 24 Jul 1847 at St James the Great in Lower Gornal.[2][3]
Mary was the daughter of Thomas (b1825, Sedgley) & Mary (b1829, Sedgley) Oakley nee Ashton. She had a sister Sarah (b1850, Sedgley) shown on the 1851 census. Ancestry.UK records show that Mary (Oakley) Cartwright's mother's maiden name is Parkes, not Ashton. Further investigation required. Siblings all match.
Note, Jan 2022: Mary and all of her siblings' birth registrations show mother's maiden name Clark or Clarke.
