Elizabeth Oakley was christened on 26 November 1826 in St. Stephens, Hertfordshire, England. She was the daughter of James and Esther Oakley. [1]
She married Thomas Fenner on 03 March 1845 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. [2]
The 1861 census shows the family living in Chelmsford, Essex. Thomas (44) was listed as an assistant grocer. The couple were accompanied by their children Mary Ann (13), James (7), Emma (5) and Henry (1). Mary Ann had been born in Hemel Hempstead, the others in Stokenchurch, Oxfordshire. [3]
By the time of the 1871 census Thomas had died and the family had moved to Godalming, Surrey. Elizabeth was earning money as a needlewoman and was accompanied by Emma (15), Henry (11) and Walter Starman (3), a "nurse child". [4]

Thomas Fenner and Elizabeth Oakley were married in the March quarter of 1845 in Hemel Hempstead (see GRO Index of Marriages, volume 6, page 625). In fact, I see the date was 03 March 1845. I think we have to assume that 1831 is too late for her date of birth: I see a suitable candidate is Elizabeth Oakley, daughter of James and Esther Oakley, who was christened on 26 November 1826 in St Stephen's (a parish which stretches from St Albans in the east to Hemel Hempstead in the west). ("England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NB6S-9XY : 18 September 2020), Elizabeth Oakley, 1826.) I'll add a couple of census references - could you give her her correct surname, please? Many thanks, Russell Gerrard-621
