Biography
From the will of her father James Oates 1788:
I also leave and bequeath unto my two daughters Mary Ann and Catharine Oates five hundred pounds British each ... And I direct that the sum of three hundred pounds part of the same legacy bequeathed to my daughter Catharine be paid her at the age of twenty one years or day of marriage, whichever shall first happen, and the remaining two hundred pounds to be paid her soon afterwards as my exeuctrix shall fine it convenient for her to pay the same ..
From the will of her brother Philip 1821:
Thirdly, I also leave and bequeath to my dear sister Catharine Christian (alias Oates) wife of John Christian Esquire of Ramsey, all my estate of Croga situate in the Parish of KK Braddan & KK Santan and all my right and title in Balla Vartan and the Couraugh.
And finally all the rest, residue and remainder of all my estate and effects, real and personal watsoever ... I do give, devise and bequeath unto my dear sister Catharine and do appoint her my sole executrix of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and sale, this twelfth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and thirteen 1813. [signed] Philip Oates.
Catherine also received the property willed to her sister Mary, if Mary was deceased at the time of proving of the will.
Mary actually passed away in 1810, but it seems news of her death was not sent to her family in Isle of Man.
