Gordon was the only surviving son of Jessie Gilbert and Alfred Oben of Blenheim.
He worked as a Fitter in Blenheim.
Gordon married in 1936 to Una Gertrude (nee Kennedy).
They later moved to Lower Hutt in the Wellington district where Gordon was employed as a Labourer and later an Assembler.
In 1942, his name was drawn in the WWII Reserves Ballot.
Gordon Oben died in 1990 age 75 and is buried at Taita Lawn Cemetery, Lower Hutt. GENERAL BURIAL, BLK 2, ROW B, PLOT 42.
