Biography

John Henrich Overbeck was born August 22, 1780, in Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the son of Johannes George Oberbeck and Agnesia Magdalena Muckley. On March 20, 1808, he married in Nockamixon Township to Maria Magdalena Kressler, daughter of John Philip Kressler and Margaretha Kayser. They were the parents of 8 daughters: Susanna, Elizabeth, Margaret, Sarah, Ellevina, Anna, Maria Magdalena and Catharine Ann Overbeck. Therefore, no living descendants of John Henrich Overbeck bear the name Overbeck. John Henrich was my 4g-grandfather.

From a Bucks County, Pennsylvania Newspaper dated January 2, 1895:

"Henry and Conrad Overpeck were said to have served in the War of 1812, in Captain Phineas Kelly's Company. They did service at Marcus Hook. Both sons of George Overpeck, Sr. and residents of Nockamixon Township."

Death notice from the Doylestown Democrat:

"Overpeck, Henry, died October 10, 1858, aged 70 years, 1 month and 18 days, in Nockamixon."

Will of Henry Overbeck, written 28 May, 1855; proved 25 October, 1858:

"Be it remembered that I, Henry Overpeck, of the Township of Nockamixon, County of Bucks, and State of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being in good health of body and of sound and disposing mind and memory (praised be God for the same), and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs whilst I have strength and capacity so to do, make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. First and principally, I commit my soul in the hands of my Creator, who gave it and my body to the Earth and as to such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows. "First, I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as convenient out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my executors from my personal estate. Also, I order and direct that all the real estate of which I shall die, seised or possessed, shall as soon as convenient be sold by my executors at private or public sale to the best advantage. The farm on which I reside to be divided into different tracks so as to bring the best price, viz. wood lots run off and to effectuate this my intention I do hereby rest in my executors full power and authority to dispose of my real estate in fee simple or otherwise in as full and large a manner in every respect as I could myself do if be living and execute titles for the same. "I also order and direct that all my personal property be sold at public sale by my executors as soon as convenient after my decease. I further direct and order that all my children shall first be made equal as to advancement out of my personal estate according to book I have. They that have not received any to receive is in money so that they shall receive an equal amount. I also order and direct that the residue and remainder of the net proceeds of all my real and personal estate be divided in eight equal shares as soon as it can conveniently be done and paid by my executors to my eight children or their heirs. "My daughter Elizabeth, intermarried with Isaac Amey, shall not receive her or their share, she the said Elizabeth however to receive the interest thereof annually from my executors or a trustee to be by her appointed during her natural life, but her husband shall not be that trustee or if my executors or her trustee should think it advisable, they or he may buy her a lot with comfortable buildings thereon for use as long as she may live and after her decease, the share aforesaid or lot as the case may be shall be equally divided among her children or their heirs. "One other share or eighth part as aforesaid I give and bequeath to the children of my daughter Ann, deceased, who was intermarried with Jonas Hagey, to be paid into the hands of a guardian to be appointed by the Orphan's Court for them and to be paid to them when they each arrive at the age of twenty one years, the guardian to see to the maintenance and education of the said children and if necessary to pay out of said money for each of them for their support as they may require and to keep the money to use for such interest as he can obtain being responsible for the same, and file a settlement of his account when each arrives of age in the Orphan's Court as other guardians, but Hagey shall not be that guardian. "The remaining shares to be paid as aforesaid to my remaining six children, viz. Susan, Margaret, Sarah, Elvenia, Mary and Catharine, as soon after my decease as conveniently or reasonably can be done by my executors herein after named, if any of my daughters should die without lawful issue, it is my will that her or their shares the principle only shall be paid back and be equally divided among the survivors of my children or their heirs. "And I do hereby make and ordain my two sons-in-law, George Rufe and John Bachman, executors fo this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I, Henry Overpeck, the testator have to this my will set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five." ----signed Henrich Oberbeck
