Biography

Maria was born illegitimately as first children of Maria Oberreiter.

She gave birth to two illegitimate children, Romuald in 1869 and Ignatz in 1874. The latter died at the age of two years. In 1875, Maria married Ignatz Schallegger, giving birth to another three children. Her fourth child (the second with Ignatz Schalleger), Francisca, died young at the age of 16 months.

Later (maybe after 1880), she emigrated to the US with her remaining two daughters only, her remaining son Romuald stayed. Due to the contact between Maria and her nephew Vincent Oberreiter, the emigration of Vincent in 1914 was possible. Maria also paid his voyage.

Research notes

Why did Romuald stay in Austria? At the time of his mother's emigration he was around 10 years old.
