George Oddie was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.

George was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, on February 13, 1842. He was the son of Samuel Oddie and Jane Latus. He was baptized on May 29, 1842, at St Mary the Virgin Church, Blackburn. The Parish Register listed his date of birth as February 13, 1842, his parents as Samuel and Jane Oddie residing in Blackburn, and his father's occupation "Spinner".

George was enumerated in the 1851 census as a ten year old residing with his parents and three siblings in Ewood (Registration District Blackburn). His occupation "Creeler". George was one of eight children living with his parents at 22 Ewood, Lower Darwen, in 1861. He was nineteen and a "Weaver". (Note..youngest brother Samuel appears on following page).

George married Margaret Eccles on September 21, 1867, at the Church of St Stephen, Tockholes (Blackburn). The Parish Register listed George as a twenty five year old bachelor and "Spinner" residing in Ewood, Lower Darwen. His father was named as Samuel Oddie "Spinner". Margaret was a twenty one year old spinster and "Weaver" residing at Waterloo, Livesey. Her father was named as John Eccles "Laborer".

George and Margaret appeared in the 1871 census residing at Hoyes Lane (Farm House), Lower Darwen. Two children ages three and one year old, at home. His occupation "Self Acting Minder". The family was living at 5 Mill Hill Street, Livesey, in 1881. Three children, ages thirteen to five at residence. They were living at 43 & 45 Victoria Street, Livesey, in 1891. George was a "Cotton Spinner", Margaret a "Green Grocer". Two children at home. They appeared in the 1901 census residing at 73 Queen Victoria Street, Blackburn. Daughter Jane (single and twenty five), and granddaughter Amy, age five, at residence. George was a "Cotton Spinner".

George passed away in 1902. His death was registered in the second quarter in Blackburn.
