SAR Application
Lyman Hall
"He was the son of Lieut. William Hall, born in Stratford, Conn, July 13, 1766, where he lived during the war, as well as after, then resided for 9 or 10 years in Fairfield, about 10 years in New town and finally settled in Kent, where he was living in October, 1832. He was married Dec 31, 1788 to Charity Odell of Fairfield, of which there is no record, and he died at Kent, Nov 9, 1837. His widow in Aug. 1838 was residing in Kent, aged 69 years."
"He enlisted at Stratford for 2 years in 1781 (the month not ..ollected) into a company commanded by his father Lieut. William Hall, which, by order of Gen Selick Silliman, was stationed at New ..led, now Bridgeport, to guard the coast. A greater part of the time he was billetted at the old store of Capt Burrough's in Bridgeport. All the company was discharged at the same time."
"Ichabod Beardslee of Lansing, tompkins County, NY, testified in October 1832 that he lived in the same town with Hall and served in the same company with him. There is no town record of his marriage, but Eunice, a sister of Charity, was present at the marriage, which took place nearly 3 years prior to her marriage to Jeremiah Cary, i.e. Fall 1791. She remembers that the following day was New Year's Day and we(her family) "went up to William Hall's, Lyman's father" - her age is give as 67 years."
"Sally Hurd of Bridgeport, age 57 years Feb. 15, 1838, siter to Lyman Hall, testified that when she was nearly 7 years old she was present at her brother's marriage and recollects from the reocrd by her father of the marriage, and from the impressive circumstances of her father moving into his new house in December, 1788, just prior to the marriage of charity, whose mother died in the Fall of 1788, and that Lyman Hall's grandfather deceased about the same time, and for those latter reasons "no wedding" was made."
