Biography

Nathaniel Alvin Odell was born 4 June 1816 in New York, possibly in Seneca Co.

He married Mahala May Brace 19 Mar 1838 in Milton Twp (present day Battle Creek), Calhoun Co, MI.[1]

In 1840 and 1850 he was living in Newton Twp, Calhoun Co, MI.[2][3]

In 1856, 1860 and 1870 he was living in Colony Twp, Delaware Co, IA.[4][5][6]

On 14 Dec 1875 Nathaniel Odell bought land in Sherman Twp, Montgomery Co, IA, from his daughter Mary E. Gilmore and her husband Edwin Gilmore. Nathaniel was apparently living in Montgomery Co at the time, because the Warranty deed describes him as “of the County of Montgomery.”[7]

In 1880 he was living in Pleasant Twp, Cass Co, IA.[8] Nathaniel and Mahala apparently also still owned land in the adjacent townships of Sherman and Pilot Grove in Montgomery Co just south of Pleasant Twp, Cass Co. On 15 Feb 1882 they sold property located there to their daughter Amelia C. Foote,[9] on 23 Feb 1882 they sold property located there to their daughter Elenora McGuire,[10] and on 1 Mar 1882 they sold property located there to their son Elisha Brace Odell.[11]

Nathaniel died 19 Aug 1882 in Cass Co, IA,[12] and is buried in Waveland Cemetery, Waveland Twp, Pottowattamie Co, IA.[13]
