Biography

Leven Oden lived in Appalachia, in Ohio.

LEVEN ODEN DIES AT HOME IN CONESVILLE With the death of Leven Oden, which occurred Sunday evening at 9 o'clock, Conesville lost one of her most respected citizens. Mr. Oden was apparently in the usual health Sunday, although at intervals for the past two months he had been suffering from attacks of heart trouble. During the evening Sunday he was engaged in some conversation with neighbors, who had come for a friendly call, when he was struck with a sudden attack of angina pectoris and succumbed in a few minutes time. Mr. Oden was a life long resident of Coshocton county and much of his life was spent on a farm near Conesville. Three years ago, he and his family moved to the village of Conesville, which he had made his home until his sudden death. Mr. Oden was 68 years of age. He was a Civil War veteran, having served as a member of the Ohio State Calvary, Company M. 9th Regiment. Those qualities of the soldier, which he displayed so creditably during the rebellion, were non the less characteristic of his conduct throughout the remaining years of his life. he was a man who was noted for his firm adherence to the right, and industrious and respected farmer and in every respect a man who commanded the respect of his fellow citizens. The widow and four daughters, Mrs. Rutherford of Breman, Mrs. Frank Wehr , Mrs. Pearl Wills and Mrs. Charles Ford, all of the vicinity of Conesville; one son Alfred of Conesville; one sister, Mrs. McFarland and one half brother, Alfred Pepper of Conesville, survive. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Conesville. Rev. C. M. Gay will conduct the services and burial will be in South lawn Cemetery, Coshocton.
