Thank you for participating in past Thons as a member of the Toddlin' Tortoises. If you decide to participate again in January's upcoming Connect a Thon, the registration this time will be somewhat different. (You can read about it here.) We would love to have you join us again, but whatever team you decide to join will be lucky to have you!

Thanks so much for being part of the Toddlin' Tortoises Team for the April 2023 Source-a-Thon. Every source or citation verifying the information on a profile, helps make for a healthier Tree!

Thank you so much for signing up with the Toddlin' Tortoises in the January 2023 Connect-a-Thon. We may be slower than many, but we are all still winners!
Hertyl and Spertyl Slowsky Tortoises face each other, with the words “Toddlin’ Tortoises” above their heads, the words “think everyone is a” below that. Beneath that, and between Hertyl and Spertyl is the WikiTree globe — superimposed with the words "Wonderful WikiTreer" — and beneath the entire tableau are the words "and that We're all winners in the end". Because we are. Winners.

Mary, thanks so much for being part of the Toddlin' Tortoises Team for the July 2022 Connect-a-Thon. Every well-constructed profile added helps to grow a healthier Tree!

Two tortoises, Hertyl and Spertyl, dressed in their spiffy Connect-a-Thon Tuxedo coats, the one on the left holding a top hat in "hand", and the one on the right with a glass of champagne. Between them is a multi-carriage wood or coal burning steam train, near the wheels of which are the words "slow train". Above the train is the WikiTree DNA tree logo, across which are the words "Wonderful WikiTreer". Floating above the logo are the words "Toddlin' Tortoises", and at the bottom of the image is the phrase "We're all winners in the end" — because we are. All winners.
Hertyl and Spertyl just want to say: "What a Wonderful WikiTreer you are".

Happy Holidays Mary. Please note that Québécois women do not change their names. Please see the Québécois project guidelines: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Quebecois.

Happy Holidays to you too :) Did I change a name I shouldn’t have?
posted by Mary (Odgers) Wandler
Fradet-72, she was born, married and died in Québec and would have been known by her own name her whole life. The fact that Québécois women were their own person throughout life is one of the reasons Québécois genealogy is so quickly traceable back to the original immigrants.

Also I question Marguerite Morissette who married Baptiste Roy as being the daughter of Fradet-72 and her husband. After the holidays I will try to sort it out but wanted to give you a heads up that I will likely remove them as parents of Morissette-244 after finding sources. The error may have originated on family search and is being perpetuated, easy to do! Christine

Thank you for sorting out Marguerite Roy! Happy New Year!

Now that I did get it sorted and researched; I found the problem was in the last name Morissette, it appears it wasn’t her last. Is there a way to change the last name to unknown so it doesn’t get mixed up again? I have posted on the profile for the profile manager to change it.
posted by Mary (Odgers) Wandler
Only profile managers or trusted list can alter a LNAB. The profile manager for Marguerite Roy is likely her direct descendant if I « read » her bio correctly. She may have family information/lore about Marguerite. The best approach IMHO is to direct message the profile manager (she seems very active) and ask what her source is for the last name of Morissette-244 and enter into a discussion with her about correct LNAB. Morissette is preferred to unknown. If. there is any suggestion it might have been Morissette it should remain with a note about the provenance and uncertainty (if any) of her LNAB in the bio.

You could also ask this as a g2g question. I am a beginner on Wikitree and just recently felt I could say I am no longer a novice so I may be wrong. Cheers and Happy New Year! Christine

Hi M!

I've edited the place names on several of your profiles. In particular, Newfoundland wasn't part of Canada until 1949, so "Canada" shouldn't be used in Newfoundland place names before that time.

I've also added some place categories. They're not required, but can be very useful to help you and others organize research in particular locations and family lines.

Cheers! Brad

Thanks for the catch. Entries on my mobile was not letting me see the whole location, but I have discovered that changing to desktop view gives me a better view at long location places. Hopefully this works for my future entries.

I really love that you added good sources and links to the Newfoundland profiles you're working on, and that you've also added the same links to the corresponding FamilySearch profiles. That will help a lot of people in their searches, and helps avoid duplicates. I changed some of the formatting around in Suzanna Anthony's [Anthony-2573] profile, adding the text from the transcribed records, so that the primary source information is obvious, without the need to click through. I also added the place categories, so that people can click to see all the profiles of all the people from Pilley's Island.

Great work, nice to meet you. Brad

Hello M,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre- 1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources Pre-1700 Reliable Sources]).

Hi Anonomous

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.
