Biography

He was born about 1705 to father Richard Odom who owned land in Nansemond County, Virginia. By 1715 the family had moved to Chowan County, North Carolina. This region eventually became part of Edgecombe and Granville Counties.

Abraham married Sybil, whose parentage is unknown. [1]

About 1735 he sold off his land in North Carolina in preparation for migrating to South Carolina.

In 1760 he sold off his land on the Wateree River.

By 1764 he had moved to Georgia.

They seemed to have moved back to South Carolina with at least two purchases on the waters of the Savannah River in 1767.

Children

His last Will mentioned sons Abraham, Jacob, Dempsey, David; and daughters Mary, Sarah, Nancy. It is believed he may also have had a daughter named Sybil.

Will

Abraham made his will on 30 Jan 1771 in Granville, SC. Executors of will approved 13 Mar. 1771; will probated 6 April 1771. He mentions his plantation on Pipe Creek in Granville Co, and the tract of land on the Savannah River (Edgefield), formerly owned by Dennis McClendon and McClendon bought from Mr. DeLoatch. His wife was not mentioned in his will, so it is assumed she had died by then. Abraham mentioned four sons and three daughters in his will: Abraham (received two slaves); David (received "one-half land where I now live on upper side of Pipe Creek"); Dempsey (received the other one-half land described above); Mary (m. Parker Carradine); Sarah (m. unknown Rooke); Nancy (m. unknown Deloth); Jacob (received "land that was Mr. Lototes" [DeLoach?] "purchased of Dennis McClendon."). Sons David, Jacob, and Dempsey were executors. [2]

Research Notes

Susannah (Watson) Odom has been removed as the mother due to obvious date clashes.

Jenny Dunn has been detached as wife due to lack of sources.

Ann Unknown was detached as mother because she was linked as both mother AND grandmother at the same time. Since Ann was named as wife in grandfather's Will, it infers she was grandmother of this profile.

Both Richard Odom and Jacob Odom named sons Abraham. The Abraham Odom that wrote his will and died in 1771 could be the son of either...

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:

What proof is there that he had a son named Benjamin? He named seven children in his will; Benjamin isn't among them. Unless someone has a reliable source, I propose that Benjamin be detached.
I agree, there are several problems with Benjamin's profile and it is bereft of solid sources; relying on Dar or Ancestry profiles.

I’ve detached Benjamin as son and put a note on his bio. That profile lacks reliable sources. Several of the children attached cannot be his children with the dates reported…

I have Abraham listed as the father of James Odom (Odom-3475) (1751-1797) but also have seen him listed as the grandfather of James via his son Abraham. However James isn’t listed on wiki tree as being the son of either.

Do you have any sources that could be added ? Thanks

James is not mentioned in Abraham's will. Unless you have a lot of evidence (such as on purported daughter Sibyl's profile), he needs to remain unattached.
My brothers YDNA test was 95% British - he had no Native American connection. The Odom ancestry trees have an Odom that married a Native American.
