Biography

September 8, 1845: John Oesting was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John D. and Juliane Amalie Schmersals(?) Oesting.

October 2,1873: John Oesting married Hannah Lochle in Seymour County, Indiana.[1]

Sometime in 1860: United States Census found John Oesting ("Osting"), age 15, living with his parents and family in Washington Township, Jackson, Indiana. The residents of the house were his parents John "Osting" age 47 and "Julia Ann Osting" age 45, both born in Hanover; elder sister Louisa "Osting" age 17, born in Ohio; and younger brother Henry "Osting", age 12, born in Ohio.[2]

August 17, 1874: John and Hannah's daughter Emilie A. Oesting was born.

September of 1876: John and Hannah's daughter Ida L. Oesting was born. She would eventually marry Harry Thompson.

Sometime in 1880: United States Census found John Oesting age 35, married, living in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana. His occupation was "Clerk In Store". With him lived his wife Hannah Oesting, age 25; his daughters Amelia Oesting age 5 and Ida Oesting age 3; and his father John D Oesting age 67.[3]

January of 1881: John and Hannah's daughter Clara M. Oesting was born.

March 25,1883: John and Hannah's daughter Alice E. Oesting was born.

Sometime in 1886: John and Hannah's son Carl Henry Oesting was born.

April 29, 1888: Hannah Lochle Oesting died and John was left a widower.

December 29, 1889: John Oesting married Eunice Love in Jackson County, Indiana, United States.[4]

November 1, 1896: Eunice Love Oesting died of Bright's Disease (kidney disease) and John was again a widower.[5]

SEYMOUR. Ind.. Nov. 2 Mrs. Oesting, wife of John Oesting, secretary and treasurer of the woolen mills In this city, died last night of Bright's disease, aged fortylive. She was very highly respected and leaves four daughters and one son.

Aug. 16, 1898: Emilie A. Oesting died in Seymour, Indiana, the day before what would have been her 24th birthday.[6]

Sometime in 1900: United States Census found John Oesting age 55, married, living in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana. His occupation was "Secretary Woolen Mill". With him reportedly lived his wife Hannah Oesting age 48 (both his wives were dead by this time; this could have been an oversight or it could have been someone else); daughters Ida L Oesting age 24, Clara M Oesting age 19, and Alice E Oesting age 17; and son Carl H Oesting age 14.[7]

March 27, 1907: John died in Seymour, Indiana[8][9] and was buried in Riverview Cemetery.[10] He has a shared headstone with both his wives. The headstone reads:

Born April 24, 1852, Died Nov. 1, 1896.

Born Nov. 8, 1852, Died April 29, 1888.
