OGAICK, Desmond Thomas - 73, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2007, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 10, 1933 in Ottawa, Ont., he was a son of the late Maurice and Irene (Boucher) Ogaick. Desmond enrolled in the Canadian Military at the age of 17 and served his country until his retirement in 1984. He then worked with the Corps of Commissionaires with the Halifax Dartmouth Bridge Commission for 10 years. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch 160, and the Army Navy Club. He was an avid golfer and many will remember seeing him at Hartlen Point Golf Club. Desmond is survived by daughters, Pauline (Alan) Porter, Oakville, Ont.; Janet Ogaick, Dartmouth; sons, Barry (Josie), London, Ont.; Brian, Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (Raymond) Chartier, Gatineau, Que.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helena Margaret "Snookie" Sievert; grandson, Christopher Porter; sister, Barbara Hobbs; brothers, George, Gary, Stephen. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Army Navy Air Force Association, Main Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Reception to follow. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Northwood Homecare (Home Support Workers), VON and the staff of 3rd Floor, Dartmouth General Hospital. Ottawa Journal, Friday, August 7, 1936, page 5: CHILD INJURED, Victim of a street accident near his home at eight o'clock on Thursday evening. Three-year-old Desmond Ogaick, S Norfolk street was admitted at Ottawa Civic Hospital with a fracture of the right shoulder and slight head injuries. Constable Frank Harris of West-End police reported the child was playing on the street and suddenly ran out to be knocked down by an automobile driven by Gerard Berbeau, Adeline street. Mr. Berbeau took the child to hospital, where he was being detained for X-ray examination.
