Biography

Elizabeth was believed by Dr. John E. Stillwell to be the daughter of John Ogborne b. 12 Dec 1714 d. 25 Aug 1760 and Mary Stillwell b. 2 April 1718 d. 8 Aug 1765. Her grandparents would have been Samuel Ogborne II and Gershom Stillwell & wife Elizabeth Grover. This is evidenced by William Applegate, yeoman, being granted administration of the estate of Mary Ogborne.[1] It is further evidenced by Samuel Ogborne's will, in which he tells his grandson William Ogborne to distribute money to his five sisters, including Elizabeth, wife of William Applegate.[2]

Issue:[3][4]

Mary, b. 5 Jan 1759 m. (see note) Isaac Andrews ch. Elizabeth and Edward
Lydia, b. 5 Oct 1760 m. Anthony Holmes
Richard, b. 19 Oct 1762 m. Mary Stillwell, dau of John Stillwell (she is mentioned dying after twins, Cherry Hall papers, letter to Uncle James Mott by Ann Bostwick, 1804)
Rebecca, b. 14 Nov 1764 m. Mott Conover
Sarah, b. 5 Feb 1767 m. Daniel Bray
Rhoda, b. 13 Sept 1769 d. 26 Oct 1853
Elizabeth, b. 25 July 1772 m. (see note) John Hoff
Annie, b. 10 Jan 1775 m. Joseph Browne

Note: Stillwell indicated in Vol.3 it was Mary who married Isaac Andrews. In Vol. 4 he indicated it was Mary who married John Hoff. Isaac Andrew's daughter Elizabeth (Andrews) Martin, wife of Ephraim, was born 11 Sept 1785 so much more likely Mary married Isaac.

On 1 April 1795, Richard Applegate and Mary his wife of Middletown sold 33 acres at Middletown to Matthew Ealey of Middletown, in a deed which states "the said Richard Applegate claims right as being the law full heir to William Applegate, deceased who died in[-]testate being seized in fee, in & of the said granted and bargained premises..."[5]

On 1 December 1798, Richard Applegate and Mary his wife of Middletown sold 10.5 acres at Middletown to Isaac Andrews of Middletown.[6]
