The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, 27 April 2014 Marjorie Ogden Watson Obituary September 28, 1922 - March 27, 2014

Marjorie passed away surrounded by her girls in Seaside, Oregon. She was born in Carbondale, Illinois to Carl James Ogden and Dollie Mae (Royal) Ogden. Marjorie graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1940 and attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago to study Apparel Design. Marrying her high school sweetheart, Mark Watson October 20, 1945, they raised three daughters, Marsha, Jane and Sara. An ardent Republican, voracious reader of memoirs, mysteries, and political thrillers, Marjorie was continually intrigued by culture, history, and fine arts. She and Mark enjoyed gardening and in particular, roses and rhododendrons. Marjorie rode a camel in Egypt, visited New Zealand, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Italy London nine times, Paris several times, and cruised the Mediterranean. In 1947, Marjorie earned her private pilot's license and a year later, she and Mark bought their Cessna Skyhawk 172. Regarding flying Marjorie once said, “each new day gives wings to my heart.” She joined The Ninety-Niners, the International Organization of Women Pilots, in 1976. Marjorie was affiliated with the D.A.R., Huguenots, Colonial Dames, Cottage Grove Garden Club, and an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove. Marjorie was active in the Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church, reaching out to visitors making them feel welcome. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Mark Watson in 1989, daughter Marsha in 2008, and sister Jane Kuenzi and Sara Carlson; granddaughters Kate Chumash, Elizabeth Gordon, and Lauren Kuenzi; and great-grandchildren, Ave, Piper, and Knox. A private service was held Friday, April 4th. Funeral arrangements by Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cottage Grove Public Library or the American Cancer Society for research.
