Biography

Margaret was born about 1527. She was the daughter of James Ogilvy and Helen Sinclair.

Initially Margaret was contracted to marry with a tocher of 1000 merks to Thomas Erskine the son of Sir Thomas Erskine of Brechin as agreed between their fathers at Edinburgh on 14 Dec 1540. However the marriage did not take place and a new contract was agreed on 4 Aug 1541 between James Lord Ogilvy and and Sir Thomas Erskine whereby the son Thomas Erskine would marry her sister Agnes. [1]

David Graham, 5th of Fintry, married Margaret Ogilvy, daughter of James, fourth Lord Ogilvy, and by her had a family of three sons and one daughter, David, William, and James; their daughter Alison married John Crichton of Innernyte.[2][3]

Following their marriage Sir David Graham of Fintry and Margaret Ogilvy were granted a Royal charter of the lands of Fintry at St Andrews on 30 Sep 1546.[4] They were jointly infeft in the lands of the barony of Fintry, Stirlingshire paying in 1546 to the Lord High Treasurer the sum of £26. 13s. 4d for the charter.[5]
