On 23 November 1780 he married Hannah Compton at Berwick. She was d. & h. of William Compton of Gainslaw, recorder of Berwick, who was the eldest son of the mayor Anthony Compton. Robert (b. 14 Sep 1781 - d. 05 Dec 1857, probate 07 May 1858 Newcastle).[19][2]
m. Jane, dau. of John Burgess, esq. of Brook Farm, Hants.[20]
Robert was born near Newcastle and succeeded his father in 1772. In the Poll List 1774, he is mentioned as residing at Alnwick. In 1775 he presented the living of Ingram.[12] A long series of papers connected with the division of Eglingham outfield, commencing in the time of his father in 1701, show that the Harveys, lords of the manor of Bewick, resisted the division, but this was overcome and on 25 April 1781, 910 acres were set off to this Robert, 339 to the earl of Tankervill, and 58 to the vicar.[13]
In 1787 the estate of Ingram, 2,348 acres, Greenside hill and Grieves ash, 1,655 acres, belonging to him were advertised for sale.[14]
Edward Grey of Alnwick by his will dated 11 June 1782, appointed him an executor, calling him kinsman and leaving him lands in Overgrass in Felton parish, and some land in Alnwick. In 1791, he was nominated for high sheriff. On 9 March 1797, he exchanged with Richard Carr certain lands in West Ditchburn called Longraw, etc.[15]
An indenture of 1 July 1797 quotes deeds executed in 1782 and 1784, and Christopher Williams now agreed for the purchase of Greenside hill and Grieves ash and a long lease to Alexander Adams is to be surrendered.[16]
In a letter to his son Robert dated 30 April 1805, he mentioned his uncle (John?); and he died at Gainslaw, his own property, on the Sth of January, and was buried at Eglingham on 15 January 1807, aged fifty-three years. His will dated 7 January 1807/8 leaves in trust for his children all his lands in Gainslaw, Lesbury, Alnwick, and all his real estate except that part let with Eglingham called Langraw and Broomhouse (which he gave to his eldest son).[17]
