Obituary

DR. J.W. OGLESBY DIES AT HOTEL

Dr. Joseph W. Oglesby, well known practitioner of LaGrange, died Thursday night at the Park Hotel after a severe heart attack. He was taken ill Wednesday night after eating supper and never rallied. He was about eighty years old.

Dr. Oglesby was the son of Captain Joseph Oglesby, a famous river captain when the waterways were the only mode of comfortable travel. His mother was Miss Bettie Taylor, who gave the ground where Shiloh Church now stands.

He studied medicine in Louisville and setting in Westport when graduated in that profession, where he remained until a few years ago when he came to LaGrange. Dr. Oglesby possessed a keen wit, was a good conversationalist, and his jovial ways made him a welcome adjunct to a group.

He married Miss Johnnie Kerlin, daughter of George Kerlin of Skylight, who died in 1902. Some years later he married Miss Mattie Belle Yager. No children were born to either union. Dr. Oglesby is survived by one sister Mrs. Bettie Erwin of St. Joseph, MO and one brother Richard Oglesby of Chicago.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at McCarty and Ricketts Funeral Home by the Rev. P T Smith of the LaGrange Methodist Church. Internment followed in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.

Those going to Louisville with the body were Mr. and Mrs. H T Fendley, Mrs. A B Wolfe, Messrs J R Gatewood, Lou Maxfield, Wm Owen, and William Pinkston.
