Biografi

Biography

Ragnvald "Heidumhære" (highly honored/revered or famous) was a Norwegian legendary king or chief in Vestfold at the end of the ninth century. The birth year is added in accordance with the one (currently) listed in Norwegian Wikipedia for Ragnvald Heidumhære.

MedLands mentions that he in The Ynglinga Saga is called "Rognvald Mountain-high", son of Olaf whom he succeeded as king of Vestfold. That would most likely be some mistake in translation. [2]

According to legend, Ragnvald Heidumhære was the son of Olav Geirstadalv/Geirstad-Alf Gudrødsson.. Ragnvald was possibly the father of a daughter who married Øystein Glumra, father of Ragnvald Mørejarl.

In Ynglingatal, Ragnvald is mentioned as "Vognstyreren", and wagons had a cultic function in the Norse religion, and may be a hint that Ragnvald functioned as a good (priest) in Vestfold. Ynglingatal, composed by Ragnvalds skald "Tjodolv den kvinværske" seems to have been composed as proof that Ragnvald Heidumhære had as great a right to the royal power as Harald Hårfagre.

A dubious, later pedigree[citation needed] attributes to Ragnvald a daughter, Åsa Ragnvaldsdatter (Aseda Rognvaldsdatter), who married Eystein Ivarsson. It is through this line that Ragnvald Heidumhære is a purported ancestor of William the Conqueror (and subsequent British royal houses).

Ynglingasaga

Rognvald Olafsson, the Mountain High, son of Olaf Gudrodsson. His mother is not named in Ynglinga Saga. King of Westfold after his father. He is the subject of the Ynglinga-tal composed by Thjodolf of Kvine, a poetic catalogue of the dynasty, probably composed between 880 and 900 AD. [3][4] He is the last King named in the Ynglingasaga which says he was very tall and a good seaman.

Research Note

Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.

Olafsson-380 and Olafsson-272 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates
Olafsson-533 and Olafsson-380 appear to represent the same person because: Even if the birth years differs, the profiles seem to represent the same semi-legendary king of Vestfold.

Just had to change his gender from female to male with that name

UNKNOWN-130410 and Olafsson-380 appear to represent the same person because: Please do not reject the merge again. There was only ONE Rognvald the Mountain High in the source.

UNKNOWN-130410 and Olafsson-380 do not represent the same person because: The biography of Olafsson says that the UNKNOWN-130410 profile and the Olafsson profile are brothers. They should not be merged, however the LNAB of UNKNOWN should be changed to Olafsson.

UNKNOWN-130410 and Olafsson-380 appear to represent the same person because: Mountain High makes these the same man

Olafsson-273 and Olafsson-272 appear to represent the same person because: These men are both cited as MOTHER of Hrolf Nefja who has no parents named in Ynglingasaga. Please merge to enable analysis of who they actually are.

Rognvald Gudrodsson is clearly not a son of Olaf. I working Ynglinga saga at the moment which doesn't identify father of Rolf Nefja. I will detach him.

I disagree they are potential matches since there are so many other potential matches to be considered. It would be confusing to change the LNAB without properly identifying which person this is.

This Rognvald is son of Olaf. Cannot be confused with Rognvald Olafsson, he is Rognvald Olafsson. He has the wrong LNAB.
posted on Gudrodsson-58 (merged) by C. Mackinnon
As in Notes, "ALTERNATE BIRTH DATES: 782, 810, 816, HE COULD BE CONFUSED WITH ANOTHER ROGNVALD OF THE SAME PERIOD WITH THE LAST NAME OLAFSSON OR OLAVSSON." Since it is not clear whether this is one person or two separate persons, there is no good reason to change the LNAB. Profiles with questionable information should not be merged until proof of a correction is found.

Please change LNAB to Olafsson
posted on Gudrodsson-58 (merged) by C. Mackinnon
The name should be Rognvald Olafsson because the last name of a male in Viking tradition is derived from the first name of the father. Females last names are derived likewise from the first name of the father.
