Biography

European Aristocracy
Christian VIII Oldenburg was a member of the aristocracy in Europe.

Christian VIII, born Christian Frederik, (18 Sep 1786 – 20 Jan 1848) was King of Denmark from 1839 to 1848 and, as Christian Frederick, King of Norway in 1814. The eldest son of Hereditary Prince Frederick of Denmark and Norway and Duchess Sophia Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Christian was born on 18 September 1786 at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. His paternal grandparents were King Frederick V of Denmark and his second wife, Duchess Juliana Maria of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

Prince Christian first wed his cousin Duchess Charlotte Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin at Ludwigslust on 21 June 1806. Charlotte Frederica was a daughter of Friedrich Franz I, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Christian's first-born son was Christian Frederik, who was born and died at Schloss Plön on 8 April 1807. Christian's second son Frederik Carl Christian later became King Frederick VII of Denmark. Christian's marriage with Charlotte Frederica was dissolved by divorce in 1810 after she was accused of adultery.

Christian wed his second wife, Princess Caroline Amalie of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (daughter of Louise Augusta of Denmark, the only sister of Frederick VI), at Augustenborg Palace on 22 May 1815. The couple was childless

On 13 December 1839 Prince Christian ascended the Danish throne as King Christian VIII. He was crowned on 28 June 1840 at Frederiksborg Palace Chapel.

King Christian VIII died of blood poisoning on 20 January 1848 at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, and was interred in Roskilde Cathedral. His only legitimate son, Frederik Carl Christian, succeded him on the throne as King Frederick VII.

Christian VIII (18 September 1786 – 20 January 1848) was King of Denmark from 1839 to 1848 and, as Christian Frederick, King of Norway in 1814.[1]

Christian Frederick was the eldest son of Hereditary Prince Frederick, a younger son of King Frederick V of Denmark and Norway. As his cousin, King Frederick VI had no sons, Christian Frederick was heir presumptive to the throne from 1808.

Unknown-344346 and Oldenburg-101 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, unknown profile needs to be merged away.
Oldenburg-178 and Oldenburg-101 appear to represent the same person because: This is the exact same person. No idea why someone would put this as a rejected match. These two need to be merged together.
Christian VIII is not a son of Christiaan VII. He is a son of Hereditary Prince Frederik (Denmark 240).(*) There is a dublicate prifile of Christian VIII with the correct parents (Oldenburg-101).

(*) This is his official father, it is generally accepted that Frederik is not the biological father of Christian VIII

Of_Denmark-82 is now merged into Oldenburg-178 and is the same person as Oldenburg-101
