I am the 2x great grandson of James Edward Oldfield 1846-1928 son of George Benjamin Hanchard aka Henshaw/Oldfield. Court Case in 1860's NSW George Oldfield confirmed his name was actually George Hanchard. He and wife Margaret Sargeant are my 3x great grandparents. Henshaw use was after Napoleonic wars 1812-1815 French sounding surnames were not popular in an English colony of NSW. George Hanchard was apprenticed to uncle Daniel Search. Been researching family since 1979. corresponded with many elderly Freebody and Oldfield cousins in the 1990's NSW. Joy Reber a 1970's -1990's Oldfield descendant had researched much in NSW. I discovered the Enfield/Edmonton connection before MIchael Flynn. Have Parish register transcripts direct by my correspondence with the local church vicar early 1990's The Freebody line John Freebody Sion Clarkson Freebody. his uncle Sir Clarkson Freebody d 1772 was not knighted but likely corruption of Sion. Edward Freebody was a Knight of the Garter 1691. re Sion "Simon" Clarkson Freebody's father John Freebody's wife Ann Walls was John's 3rd wife. James Oldfield's (Anne Hanchard nee Freebody boyfriend ) first wife Catherine Moran died 1815 and child Richard Oldfield b 1813 NSW you make no reference for? Daniel Hanchard is the Great Grandson of Huguenot London church Elder Antione Hanchard and Marie Dupont circa 1700. Have the family line back to 1668 France. Freebody ancestry tracked to 1100 3 Manor homes Ancestors "Keeper of the Books" and "Keeper of Keys" Royal Palace King Henry 11. 1st US president George Washington was a Freebody family descendant and likely knew this of the Freebody family branch that settled Rhode Island US 1700. Have copy manuscript 8 Centuries of Freebody's from 1973 family researcher 10,000 pages. Alos 1800's old book on Freebody family Knellstone Manor. Simon's great grandfather Samuel Freebody money lender to King Charles 1 and 11 as recorded in Star Chamber records. Samuel started Freebody and Debenham. Debenham department Store in London still a business. In 1870 253 family members on sion "Simon" Freebody Family tree drawn by Mary Ann Freebody-Daniel Search family branch researcher 1990's.
