"By this time [about 1937] my eldest brother Vince was married with a baby daughter, here I have to say that he was 14 years older than me, it seems that he had been a naughty boy, and the girl he had been seeing was anxious to get married, but he was in no rush, so her Mother told my parents that she was pregnant and my Father insisted that Vince married, so off to the church we went, nice white wedding and all, they in turn came out to Austinfield to live on 'our property,' and some 13 months later the baby arrived, he was not very impressed, but they made the best of the situation. That was until Dulcie Kelly came on the scene, unfortunately they fell madly in love and when Ann was about three and a half Vince and family left the house and went into town to live, it was sometime after that my brother Aussie took sick and we all had to change our way of life. "As for my big brother, Vince, he and his wife, Ethel, parted and divorced some years after they went to Canberra, they each remarried, she to a fellow from Tumbarumba, they were very happy and had two children, and moved down the South Coast to live withher three sons from her marriage to my brother; their daughter Ann lives in Tumbarumba with her husband and children. Vince married a Canberra woman, they also had two children, boys: Laurie and John. We did not have a lot of time with him as his wife did not encourage family, however she died some ten years before he did, after her death we had a lot more contact with him. I used to go to Canberra and stay with him five or six times a year. About three years after his wife died he met a really wonderfullady, Jeannette Reaby, she cared for him until his death two year ago. Vince’s ex-wife and her husband had both died before he did, I should put some dates in here but I really am not sure of them, I will look these things up later and add them in, Jeannette is still living in her home in Canberra, she has a very wonderful daughter, Leonie, who in turn has a daughter, Kate, and a son, David. "I remember being in the old open cruiser car as kids (at the old property at Top Naas), Vince was driving, he put the handbrake on and got out to get a drink of water from a tank (there was always a bowl under the tank tap and a mug so you could have a drink) and Aussie took the handbrake off. The car started to roll back down the hill - we screamed - Vince shot the mug and chased after us - luckily the car hit a stump otherwise we would have ended up in the creek." (Pearl Rigg, 2013).

VINCENT ALBERT CRAIG OLDFIELD.

Vince was born on 19 July 1914 and spent his early years at ‘Naas’ – his parents property, near Tharwa, ACT. He attended school at Tharwa but was made to leave school at the early age of 13 in order to learn to shear sheep and help on the property.

When his parents sold ‘Naas’, they bought a property at Tumbarumba, not far from the Victorian border. Vince worked on the property and met his first wife, Ethel, who he married in Tumbarumba when he was 20-years-old. After Anne, their first babe, was born, they moved to Boroomba Station where, apart from running the property, Vince also rounded-up and broke-in wild brumbies. After a few years at Boroomba, they moved to Bulls Head, Mt Franklin, and on to Pearce’s Creek with the Forestry Commission. Duringthese years Vince and Ethel had three sons – Jimmy, Brian and Peter. Later, the family moved to Uriarra but after a time Vince and Ethel separated.

Vince met his second wife, Alice and her three children (Dulcie, Joyce and Jimmy) around 1945 and they subsequently had two sons, Laurie and John. Vince was a loving and caring father to all of the children. Vince worked on Scrivener Dam – still with the Forestry Commission – until he retired, and lived at Hart Street, O’Connor.

After Alice died, he stayed on at Hart Street for a further seven years, and then moved to Goodwin Gardens, Ainslie, where he began attending the Dickson Day-Care Centre. He really enjoyed going to the Day-Care Centre and it was there in 1998 that he met his dear and wonderful friend, Jeanette – they adored each other and looked after each other very well until Vince’s death on 16 August 2002.

He was a beautiful, loving and caring person – we all loved him dearly and will miss him more than we can ever say.

According to my mother (Vince's sister, Joan) he didn't find out he was adopted until his biological mother's death. But one of his son's has since told me that they remember their mother taking them to visit Mary Jane/Daisy and that it seemed clear that everyone knew she was in fact their grandmother." VINCENT ALBERT CRAIG OLDFIELD.

19.7.1914 - 16.8.2002.

Vince was born on 19 July 1914 and spent his early years at ‘Naas’ – his parents property, near Tharwa, ACT. He attended school at Tharwa but was made to leave school at the early age of 13 in order to learn to shear sheep and help on the property.

When his parents sold ‘Naas’, they bought a property at Tumbarumba, not far from the Victorian border. Vince worked on the property and met his first wife, Ethel, who he married in Tumbarumba when he was 20-years-old. After Anne, their first babe, was born, they moved to Boroomba Station where, apart from running the property, Vince also rounded-up and broke-in wild brumbies. After a few years at Boroomba, they moved to Bulls Head, Mt Franklin, and on to Pearce’s Creek with the Forestry Commission. Duringthese years Vince and Ethel had three sons – Jimmy, Brian and Peter. Later, the family moved to Uriarra but after a time Vince and Ethel separated.

Vince met his second wife, Alice and her three children (Dulcie, Joyce and Jimmy) around 1945 and they subsequently had two sons, Laurie and John. Vince was a loving and caring father to all of the children. Vince worked on Scrivener Dam – still with the Forestry Commission – until he retired, and lived at Hart Street, O’Connor.

After Alice died, he stayed on at Hart Street for a further seven years, and then moved to Goodwin Gardens, Ainslie, where he began attending the Dickson Day-Care Centre. He really enjoyed going to the Day-Care Centre and it was there in 1998 that he met his dear and wonderful friend, Jeanette – they adored each other and looked after each other very well until Vince’s death on 16 August 2002.

He was a beautiful, loving and caring person – we all loved him dearly and will miss him more than we can ever say.

Suggestion from Joycc@iinet.net.au (via Ancestry) that Vince's father was Henry "Cotter Harry" Oldfield - Daisy's first cousin. If true there are other half brothers including Douglas Colquhoun Graham Corcoran/Cochran (born Dec 1913) - 9820 3221: "The information about Vince's father came from Max Oldfield. He worked for Doug's mother at Yaouk. Max built Oldfields' Hut. I have only spoken to him by phone and he was a lovely old gentleman. He told me that it was a well known that Harry Oldfield was the father of Doug and his brother Max. He also told me about Vince, he said Vince used to say that he was a "True Oldfield "as both his mother and father were Oldfields'." (from Joy Corcoran).
