Biography

Frederick Jennings Oldham born in 1822 at Letch or Warmagay, Norfolk, was a solicitor of Melton Mowbray and became clerk to the Assessment Committee and to the Rural Sanitary Authority and to the Highway Board, clerk to the School Board, Coroner for Leicestershire, clerk to Guardians, Superintendent Registrar for BD&M. He lived in High Street and had premises in South Parade. His partner in Oldham Marsh was Arthur Henry Marsh. To be Lieut of 3rd Leicester Rifle Volunteers in 1861 and Captain in 1863. [Army and Navy Gazette, 1 June 1861 & 25 April 1863] Frederick married Esther Ann Mountford from Stourbridge in 1862. Frederick was appointed agent for Melton Mowbray of the County Fire Ofice and Provident Life Office in lieu of Mr Edward Bright deceased. [Leicester Journal, 22 Dec 1871] In 1871 Frederick 49 was a solicitor and registrar, living in High street, Melton Mowbray, with Esther Ann 29 from Worcester, Frederick M 8, Thurgood Edward 6, Herbett M 5, Edith Mary 3, Eliza Gertrude 2, Ernest FitzJohn 1, all children born at Melton Mowbray, a visitor and four servants.

In 1881 they had Fred M 1863 his articled clerk in 1881, Herbert E 1866, Edith M 1868, Eliza G 1869, Ernest F 1870 and Harry Bright 1873. All the children were born at Melton Mowbray. Frederick Jennings Oldham was a solicitor and executor of the will of his brother-in-law George Carter Bennett in 1871. In 1891 Frederick was 69 a solicitor living in the village at Saxby with Esther A 49, Eliza G 22, Ernest F 21 and Harry B 18 and two servants. Ernest was a solicitor, 31, at Rushley in Herts 1901. Edith and Eliza were spinsters living together at New Sowerby, Lincs in 1901. Frederick of Freeby, Leics, who died 28 January 1903 aged 81 at Melton Mowbray, left admin proved at London on 11 April to Esther Ann Oldham widow. [1]
