Note NI131Williamson Simpson Oldham came to Arkansas in 1835. In 1837 he was attorney for the Fayetteville Branch of the State Bank. In 1838 he was elected to the state legislature and six years later was elected again. In 1845 he was elected to a seat on the Supreme Court, but he found the service on the court distasteful and he soon resigned. In 1846 he was candidate for congress, but was defeated by Robert W. dJohnson, and soon removed to Texas, which state he represented in the Confederate States Senate.
On December 12, 1837, in Fayetteville, AR he married Mary Vance McKisick daughter of James McKisick and Mary Vance Greer McKisick.
