Biography

Curtis Lyon Olds was born 18 June 1810 in Belchertown, Hampshire, Massachusetts to Jonathan and Lucy (Woods) Olds.[1][2]

Curtis married Emily Wright in 1838 at Ware, Massachusetts.[2] Their children were:

  • Julia (1840-1880), who married Henry Covil.
  • Jonathan "John" (1842-?)
  • Charles (1854-)

The Olds family was living in La Moille, Bureau, Illinois at the time of the 1850 US Census and the 1855 Illinois State Census. The household included Curtis, Emily, and their children, Jonathan and Julian. Curtis was farming. They were living the Marshall Olds family.[3][4]

The Olds were in LaMoille, Illinois at the time of the 1860 US Census and the 1865 Illinois State Census. Only Curtis and Emily were in the household. Curtis was working as a farm laborer.[5] According the 1865 enumeration, there was one white male 10 and under in the home (likely Charles), and 1 white male and 1 white female over 40 but under 50 in the home (Curtis and Emily).

In 1870, the Curtis Olds family were living in Bureau Junction, Illinois. The household included Curtis, his wife, Emily, and their son, Charles. Curtis was working as a farm laborer and Emily was keeping house.[6]

Curtis' wife, Emily, is enumerated in the 1880 US Census (dated in June 1880), living with her son, Charles, and is designated as a widow. He died circa October 1878, according to the Olds Family history book.[7][2]
