Biography

Little is known of Isaac Clarence Olds. Isaac was likely named after his maternal grandfather, Isaac Seaman who at the time of his birth lived in Fallsburgh, New York. He was the fifth child of David Osmyn Olds and Rosanna H. Seaman. Sometime after 1863, his mother was committed to the Willard Asylum for the Chronic Insane at Romulus, New York. Thereafter his father surrendered the children to the Cayuga Asylum for Destitute Children in Auburn, NY before leaving the state to make a new life in the western USA. He apparently never had any contact with his children by Rosanna again.

Isaac is recorded in the US Census of 1860 living with his parents in Tioga County, New York. The records of the Cayuga Asylum for Destitute Children at Auburn, New York record that Isaac was born on 29 Sept 1855. His father surrendered Issac from Port Byron, New York 9 Dec 186?. On 10 Nov 1864 he was taken on trial (fostered out) to a Mr Charles Van Voorhis of Benton, Yates County, New York which lasted until Mrs. Van Voorhis died a few years later. There after he was transferred to a Mr. John B. Dennian (sp?), also of Benton. No confirmed record of his existence has been found after that transfer.
