Robert William Oliphant was the oldest child of William Oliphant and Cordelia Bristow Gay. He was born in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England on the 31st May, 1835. (1)
He was baptised at St James' Church, Clerkenwell, Islington, on 19 Dec, 1838. (2)
At the time of the 1851 census he was age 12 living with his family in Parkers Row, Bermondsey, Surrey, England. (3) England & Wales Census 1851
On the 24th July, 1852, Robert William and his family (less Kate and William jr), left London on board the vessel "Delgany", to sail for Port Phillip, Australia. The vessel arrived in November, 1852. (4)
Robert William passed away in Hobart on the 6th July, 1853. Not been able to find out why or how he passed away. (5) He was buried at St John's Park Cemetery and the headstone was later relocated to the Cornelian Bay Cemetery in 1969.
