Simeon was born about 1796. He was the son of James Oliver and Mary Thompson. He passed away in 1865.[1] See: Shelton Oliver family papers,1791-1913 Emory University, Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library Atlanta, GA 30322
Note: On August 8, 1819, long before they left Georgia, Simeon wrote his father in Elbert County saying that he must find a new home, as his Georgia crops failed repeatedly. He added that he already looked into the new territory in the west, and he liked it very much. As their Georgia land had been his wife's dowry, he gave his father-in-law the refusal of buying back the farm to keep it in the family.
When Mildred and Simeon finally settled on their DeSoto plantation, it was managed by General Bedford Forrest in his youth. On Februry 5, 1840, James wrote a letter to Simeon from Georgia to Hernando. It mentioned that cotton was selling at 7 cents a bag and that two young ladies had gone to school in Washington for $15.00 a month room and board. He wished them all well in their new home and sent special regards to the Tate and White families.
Simeon's and Mildred's seventh child, Sarah, born March 16, 1823, while they were still in Georgia, came with her family in the covered wagon to the "goodly land." Later she married Joseph Simon Boykin Boon in Hernando. They were parents of 12 children and lived in DeSoto County, MS
