Sarah Oliver was born in 1885 probably in Woodmansey immediately south of Beverley and in the Minster Parish, but she lived and claimed to be born in Walkington, a couple of miles west of Beverley across the Westwood Common. [1]
In 1891 Thomas Oliver seems to be at the same house, but with a new job nearby at the chalk quarry, producing England's purest natural chalk easily turned into whiting for dhobi, or silver cleaning or quality whitewash or the basis for pills, not as the enumerator wrongly adds, Cement.. For the first time Thomas and Margaret have children over 10 at home at the census -- Oliver Cromwell Oliver 12 and James Oliver 10 are still at school. They have had their last three children, Sarah in 1885, Elizabeth in 1883, and a last son Gilson in 1881, but Gilson is not with them, he died young. For some reason they have two grandchildren with them -- Robert and Martha J Oliver, aged 2, who are not twins as Robert was born in Hull [2]
