Biography

Leoluca Oliveri is born 17 October 1846 in his parents' home in via S. Giovan Battista, Corleone. His birth is reported by the midwife, Francesca Paola De Luca, age 42. Leoluca's parents are Orsola Lucchese, age 26 (b. 1820), and Rosario Oliveri, age 36 (b. 1810), agricola (farmer). Leoluca is baptized the same day. His godparents are Giovanni di Palermo and Angela Lisotta, a married couple.

Leoluca marries Anna Maria Castellana, his 3rd cousin,[1] on 10 March 1888. It is the first marriage for either of them. Their parents are all still living. A dispensation is required due to 3rd degree collateral consanguinity.[2]

Leoluca and Anna Maria have at least six children: two daughters named Orsola (1889 and 1890), two sons named Rosario (1891 and c. 1896), Giuseppa (c. 1895), and Angelo (1898).

The first daughter named Orsola, after her paternal grandmother, is born and baptized on 10 February 1889. Her godparents are Nicolo' Crisfati from Monreale, and Maria Maggio, wife of Costavo Battaglia, from Marsala.

Orsola dies at three months and 20 days of age on 29 May 1889.

The second daughter named Orsola is born and baptized 26 March 1890. Her godparents are Carmelo Castellana and Rosalia Arsena, who are unmarried.[3]

The first son named Rosario, after his paternal grandfather, dies at one year and three months of age[4], on 15 February 1893.

Giuseppa is born 23 March 1895 and baptized two days later. Her godparents are Salvatore Castellano and Orsola Arsena, a married couple.

Giuseppa dies at ten months of age (b. Mar 1895) on 22 January 1896.

The second son named Rosario is known from the record of his death at a year and seven months of age (b. Dec 1896) on 29 July 1898.

Angelo is born 15 October 1898 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Leonardo Carrabba and Rosa Arsena, a married couple.[5]

Angelo dies at age three on 31 October 1901.[6]
