Ronald was born on July 13, 1910. He is the son of Frank Olmstead and Ruth Walker.
He married Beatrice Belle Wood on August 15, 1936 in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Ronald died on March 23, 2000 in New Hampshire. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery in Northwood, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA[1]
Ronald Walker Olmstead, 89, of Northwood, New Hampshire, former Budget Director of the University Systems of New Hampshire, passed away at Concord Hospital on Thursday, March 23, 2000, following a brief illness.
He was born on July 13, 1910 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the son of Frank T. and Ruth Walker Olmstead. A graduate of Winchester, Massachusetts High School and of Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, he received his Master’s Degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business, Hanover.
He was employed as Treasurer of Utica Drop Forge and Tool Corporation in Utica, New York, prior to becoming the Comptroller of the University of New Hampshire, and later the Budget Director of the University Systems of New Hampshire, Durham.
He was a Past President and a member of the Rushlight Club, having received their highest honor, the Leroy Thwing Award. He did extensive research on early lighting, especially related to articles in his own collection. He was a member of the National Wildlife Federation, the National Rifle Association, the Dartmouth Class of ’32, the Dartmouth Alumni Association, the Ledyard Canoe Club, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Early American Industrial Association, the Appalachian Mountain Club, NHPTV, the New Hampshire Historical Society, and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, skiing, rock and fossil studies, birds, weather, the ocean, hunting, and fishing. He was also an avid reader and loved auctions and antiques.
He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Beatrice Olmstead (nee Wood) of Northwood, New Hampshire; two daughters, Mrs. James (Jeanne) Eaton of York, Maine, and Mrs. Winslow (Barbara) Carr of Northwood; four grandchildren, Janice Eaton of Kittery, Maine, Jeffrey Eaton of York, Lisa Ward of Laconia, New Hampshire, and Stephanie Carr of Manchester, New Hampshire; two great grandchildren, Morgan Ward and Hunter Ward, both of Laconia; a sister, Ruth Roundy of Beverly, Massachusetts; and three nieces and two nephews.[2]
