Ole "George" Olsen was born on 10 March 1910 in Kristiansund, Norway to Olaf and Inga (Sorvik) Olsen. [1][2]
In 1930, George was living in Bellingham, Washington with his parents Olaf and Inga and his sisters Ida and Clara. George is listed as a deck hand on a fishing boat; his father a captain of a fishing boat. [3]
By 1940, George was living in Cordova, Alaska with his wife Lona and son Kenneth. [4]
The 1941 WWII Draft Card lists George Olsen as a white male born in Kristiansund, Norway on 10 March 1910; occupation is listed as W R Gilbert Pkg. Co; he is described as 6' tall, 175 lbs with a light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. His next of kin is Lona Olsen, his wife. [5]
George was killed in August of 1942 when there was an explosion on the fishing boat he was aboard. George is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Cordova, Alaska [6]
Research Notes: I have attached a letter to George's freespace page, sent to George's son Ken, from "Aunt Ida", George's sister. The letter confirms most of this information. The letter is submitted by Jackie Olsen, Ken's daughter.
