JOHN OLSONS OBSERVE 50th WEDDING DATE - 1947 Elroy Tribune, 25 Apr 1947 More than one hundred relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Olson on Saturday, April 19, to help them celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. John and Lizzie Olson (nee Knutson) were married March 15, 1897 at the Lutheran parsonage by Pastor Skjeve. They made their home on the farm near Hustler, where Mrs. Olson was born, and where they have lived ever since. This marriage was blessed with eight children, Mabel (Mrs. Avery Anderson), Esther (Mrs. Glen Bruand), Norman, Melvin, Nels, and Elmer passed away in infancy. Lewis reached the age of 34 years. Kenneth gave his life in the service of his country in France on July 27, 1944. They have 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A lovely dinner was served by the Ladies' Aid of Trinity Lutheran church of Hustler in their home which was decorated with gold streamers and yellow carnations. A beautiful wedding cake with 50 candles served as a table center piece. All the chidlren were home for the occasion. A beautiful and stirring message was given by Pastor Urberg, who also dedicated the many beautiful gifts which the couple received. Guests from away included Mr. and Mrs. Avery Anderson and daughters, Carol, Kathleen, and Donna, and son Lyle; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Braund and daughter Bonnie, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Paulson and daughter Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Anderson, Mrs. Lena Pifeowitz, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Peterson, Herman Southern, Maynard Nelson and Miss Deidre Nelson all of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Olson of Mauston; Pastor and Mrs. Urberg, Mrs. Merton Peckham, Mrs. Kenneth Peckham, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson and daughter Audrey, Miss Arlyce Macomber and Miss Ellamae Olson, all of New Lisbon; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ackerman and daughters Lillian and Esther and Mrs. Peter Nelson of Elroy; Miss Lois Olson of Union Center; and Mr. and Mrs. Emory Olson and daughters Lynnette and Barbara of Baraboo.

OBITUARY - 1961 Funeral services were held for Halvor Johannes Olson, 87, of Kendall, who passed away October 8, after an illness of several months. ** Burial was in the West Lemonweir cemetery. A son of Nels and Martha Nelson Olson, he was born September 20, 1874 in the town of Fountain. He was married to Lizzie Knutson on March 15, 1897 at New Lisbon. They spent most of their life on a farm in Juneau county, except for a short period at Rio, Wis. Eight children were born to their union. Survivors include, his wife, Lizzie; two sons, Norman of Kendall and Melvin of Wilton; one daughter, Esther (Mrs. Glen Braund) of Waukesha; one brother, Andrew of Rio; one sister, Lena (Mrs. Henry Carr) of Pittsville; 25 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Fours sons and one daughter preceded him in death.
