Biography

Elizabeth Oman was born 3 February 1809 at Mount Pleasant, Columbia, Pennsylvania, a child of Peter (Petrus) Oman and Susannah Hilborg or Hilborn. About 1827 she married William Stedman Brittain. They had twelve children: Hannah Margaret, Sarah Ann, Susannah Ann, Amelia Ellen, Effie C., Hester Miranda, Mary Elizabeth, Rebecca Jane, John, George Aten, William Wesley "Billy", and Oman Peter. She died 26 December 1892 at Holdredge, Phelps, Nebraska. Her gravestone in the Twin Grove Cemetery, Steward, Lee, Illinois, states, "Buried in Thayer County, Nebraska."
