Emily Irwin Onge was born about 1810 in Ireland.[1][2][3][4] Her parents were Abel Onge and Louisa (Jones) Onge.[5]
Emily and George Phillips were married in the Coolock Parish Church, County Dublin on 9th August 1833.[6] The marriage was solemnised by Reverend William Maconchy, vicar of Coolock, and was witnessed by Emily's father, Abel Onge and her brothers Dive and Fitzgerald Onge.
[7]
George Phillips was born at Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England. After marriage, Emily and George lived in Longport, Staffordshire. They had at least 10 children between 1833 and 1847.[1][2][8]
Emily's husband, George Phillips, died relatively young in 1847 at Burslem, Staffordshire, England.[2] After George's death, Emily sold the George Phillips pottery works and ultimately decided to emigrate.
In 1852, Emily Phillips and her children, [9] emigrated to New South Wales, Australia in 1852. They departed Liverpool onboard the ship "Merlin" and travelled via Port of Melbourne to Port Jackson, New South Wales arriving on 18 September 1852. [10][11]
Emily Irwin (Onge) Phillips died on 12 December 1891 at her home at Phillip Street, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.
[4][5][12]
She was buried on 15 December 1891 in the Shepherd Smith vault at Rookwood Cemetery, Hawthorne Avenue, Rookwood, Sydney, Australia, Zone B, Section 1.

Research Notes
The shipping log says "Mrs Phillips 2 sons and 7 daughters". Emily came to Australia with her eight children, two sons and six daughters. There was a 24 year old Mary Phillips on the "Merlin", but not in steerage.
